TSHWANE MAYOR, EXECUTIVES TO ‘LEAD BY EXAMPLE’
While Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga’s executive has signed performance agreements, the acting city manager says this is the first step towards developing a culture of accountability throughout the municipality.
Msimanga delivered his report on his first 100 days in office on Monday, which culminated in the signing of contracts with members of the mayoral committee (MMCs).
Acting city manager Lindiwe Kwele described a top-down approach to developing accountability in the city of Tshwane.
“The council, the executive mayor and MMCs, assisted by the accountant officer, must establish a performance management system, promote a culture of management within its political structures and management within its administration.”
Msimanga says they will lead by example.
“Our MMCs will also be signing performance agreements to ensure we can hold them to account. We need to be a shining example of what good governance can be.”
MMCs will be required to file quarterly reports to gauge their performance.
